What is Google Domains?
Google Workspace is another platform within Google that offers a fast, secure and trustworthy domain service to accompany your Google Site website.
By choosing a professional domain name through Google, your website and brand will be more reputable, credible, and trustworthy online.
1. How To Connect Google Domain To Google Sites
Let’s go ahead and dive straight into Google sites to begin.
To connect your personalized and professional domain name from Google domains with your website that you’ve built with Google sites, you’ll first need to head over to your website.
- Open up your browser of choice.
- Simply type in sites.google.com.
- Find your Google site.

Once you’ve arrived at your website, you’re ready to connect your Google Domain. Follow the steps below to find out how:
- Firstly, make sure your website is published and live online.
- Next, select the ‘Settings’ icon in the upper right-hand section of the page.
- Click ‘Custom domains’.
- Select ‘Start setup’.
You’ll then see three domain setup options (see screengrab), however as this tutorial is focusing on Google Domains:
- Click ‘Select a custom domain from Google Domains’.
- Click ‘Next’.
If you’ve purchased your Google domain name through your Google account, Google Sites will then automatically select the domain name.
We highly recommend that you create your Google Site and purchase your Google domain from Google Domains with your Google account.

As you can see, we’ve used this free Google account to not only create our website but also to purchase this domain through Google Domains (see screengrab).
If you haven’t purchased your Google domain yet, you’ll need to quickly do this before moving on:
- Simply head over to your browser and type in domains.google.com.
That’s going to take you here (see screengrab).
- Click ‘Sign in’ in the upper right-hand corner to sign in with your Google account.
Remember, this is the same account that you used to create your Google site.
After you’ve signed into your Google account:
- Search for your domain name through the search bar within Google Domains.
- Simply follow the easy process of both adding your details and purchasing that domain name.

Once you’ve purchased your Google domain name:
- Head back to Google Sites.
If you’ve purchased multiple domain names through this account through Google domains:
- Click the drop-down button and select the correct domain (see screengrab).
- Make sure that you have ‘www’ before your domain name.
- Tick to enable ‘Redirect root domain to this site’.
- Click ‘Done’.
You should now see under ‘Custom domains’ that you have successfully connected your domain name from Google domains to your Google site! (see screengrab).
It’s worth mentioning that it can take up to 24 hours before your domain is connected to your website.
However, your website should be live (using this domain) within just one hour.
