MailerLite Pros and Cons

MailerLite Pros and Cons

MailerLite was born in 2010 as a simple, lightweight email marketing solution that packs a punch.

Known for its clean and simple user interface, affordable pricing plans, and lead-capturing tools, MailerLite is the perfect email marketing choice for small to medium-sized businesses.

But with newer platforms like ActiveCampaign, ConvertKit, and Omnisend on the scene, MailerLite users might be left wondering…..is the grass greener on the other side?

If that’s you, come with me as I explore the pros and cons of using MailerLite!

I’ll be considering the latest trends and industry nuances to determine  – is MailerLite still a top choice?

MailerLite Pros

MailerLite Pros

1.    Free Plan

First up is their generous free plan! While other email marketing solutions have free plans, they’re often limited.

MailerLite’s free version has many features, including single trigger automation workflows, a landing page builder, and a survey maker.

Plus, you can send a whopping 12,000 emails monthly, embed unlimited forms and popups, segment and tag your audience, and more!

2.    Easy-to-use

MailerLite is a match made in heaven for beginners and advanced users with its clean, user-friendly interface and intuitive drag-and-drop email editor.

The learning curve is relatively shallow, and MailerLite’s more advanced fun interactive widgets (surveys, quizzes, countdowns) can be conveniently inserted into your emails!

3.    Landing Page Builder

MailerLite empowers you to effortlessly create and customize unlimited landing pages (up to 10 on the free plan), which can be hosted within MailerLite or on your own domain.

And with their dynamic Stripe integration, you can even use these landing pages to successfully sell your online products!

4.    Excellent Deliverability

With consistently high email deliverability rates, you can be sure your emails reach your subscribers’ inboxes with MailerLite!

MailerLite is often granted a top spot in email deliverability testing, along with powerhouses ActiveCampaign and Mailchimp.

5.    Subscriber Counts

With MailerLite, you won’t be charged extra for inactive contacts (those who’ve unsubscribed to your emails or bounced).

This is because ‘unique subscribers used’ are accounted for towards your quota.

So if only half of your customer base regularly receives emails, the other half won’t be included in your invoice – how good is that?

MailerLite Cons

MailerLite Cons

1.    Lacks Some Pro Features

While the pricing plans are undeniably attractive, there are a few pro features that MailerLite doesn’t offer.

For example, you won’t find any built-in CRM or eCommerce system, detailed reporting tools, or advanced automation capabilities.

2.    No Templates on the Free Version

Unfortunately, you’ll need to upgrade to one of the paid plans to access any newsletter and landing page templates.

And the custom HTML editor is sadly only available on the ‘Advanced’ plan for users who want to dabble in a bit of code!

3.    Subscriber Management

Don’t get me wrong, MailerLite covers all the basics of subscriber management. However, it lacks some advanced tools.

For example, its database field types are limited to just text, number, and date fields, and the tagging system is much more basic than other MailerLite alternatives.

Is MailerLite The Best Choice For You?

Is MailerLite Best For You_

With all my MailerLite pros and cons out of the way, let’s get to the nitty gritty.

Should you or shouldn’t you use MailerLite?

If you’re a small business owner on a tight budget, you’ll love MailerLite’s easy-to-use interface, customizable email editor, and contact tagging and segmentation tools.

Plus, bloggers, freelancers, or creatives will love MailerLite’s customizable RSS campaigns, video marketing tools, and seamless integration with WordPress.

Basically, if you’re unsure where to start with email marketing, MailerLite has your back!

And with a free plan, what have you got to lose?

In saying that, if you require comprehensive reporting tools or advanced automation and CRM capabilities, you might not like MailerLite.

MailerLite provides standard reports like open rates, clicks, purchases, and active subscribers, but it certainly lacks important social tracking features.

And even though MailerLite users can build automation workflows, actions are limited to only basic triggers like clicking a link or updating contact information.

If you need more complex automation workflows for things like website visits, I’d recommend using a comprehensive automation marketing platform like ActiveCampaign.

Stews Final Thoughts

Thanks for reading all the way to the end of my honest MailerLite pros and cons article.

There’s lots to love about MailerLite (which is why over 1.5 million people use it!)

And although it has pros and cons, I believe MailerLite does a pretty good job overall for small business use.

Sure, other platforms offer SMS marketing, CRM capabilities, and powerful automation workflows, but MailerLite is still an excellent lightweight email marketing solution!

However, if you’re looking for more advanced email tools to help scale your business quickly, you might prefer a more comprehensive email marketing platform like ActiveCampaign.
