What Are They? Slack vs Monday.com?
Before I start, it’s important to note that although Slack and Monday.com are both useful productivity tools, they are very different.
On the one hand, Slack is a versatile messaging and chat platform that allows you to communicate with your team seamlessly.
Slack is the perfect blend of simplicity and functionality, letting you seamlessly message or call your team members in real time through organized Slack ‘Channels.’
In contrast, Monday.com is an all-in-one work management platform.
If you’re after a comprehensive project, product, task, or customer management tool with productivity and collaboration capabilities, Monday.com has you covered!

What Are The Differences Between Slack vs Monday.com?
While both tools aim to make collaboration easier and improve productivity within your business, there are quite a few notable differences between the two.
Monday.com’s full-featured work management software is worth raving about for many reasons. But there’s one thing it doesn’t have – an internal chat communication software.
Instead, Monday.com’s communication tools are geared toward third-party integrations.
Slack, however, provides precisely what Monday.com is missing, and focuses solely on team engagement and communication through its in-app video/voice calls and messages.
Any business size and type looking to improve communication will benefit from Slack!
In contrast, Monday.com suits businesses needing an all-in-one versatile and flexible management system.

Ease Of Use
Monday.com has earned the reputation of being an easy-to-use platform with an intuitive design for good reason.
Getting set up and creating a dashboard is a breeze with Monday’s professional and fully customizable pre-made templates.
And adding items, assigning labels, creating categories or sections, and inviting team members to your dashboard is a seamless process.
In my opinion, Monday.com boasts one of the most visually attractive interfaces out there.
Beginners will love the easy drag-and-drop functionality of the software, whereas advanced users will benefit from just how much you can customize Monday.com.
Slack also offers a user-friendly interface with a left sidebar where you’ll find all your channels and direct messages.
Creating a new channel, sending a message, or adding a team is a quick process that can be done by simply clicking the ‘+’ icon on your workspace (your digital headquarters).
Regarding user-friendliness, both platforms are pretty easy to use. But, Monday.com’s learning curve is slightly higher due to the level of customization.

Features and Functionality
We’ve established that Slack and Monday.com are handy tools (for different reasons).
If you’re after a fully functional all-in-one online solution, Slack simply can’t compete with how much Monday.com offers.
But the beauty of Slack is that it doesn’t try to battle these one-stop-shop platforms.
In saying that, Slack is very good at what it does. And actually, Slack is still very feature-rich.
So, which platform offers more and better features?
Monday.com offers:
- Multiple project views.
- Pre-made customizable templates.
- User management features.
This means that anyone can easily create and organize their tasks and projects.
Additionally, on higher-paid plans, you’ll get advanced features to enhance your projects and teams, like automations and time-tracking.
One standout feature offered exclusively by Monday is the ability to share documents and boards with team members. Plus, the fact you can interconnect your boards and dependencies is super cool!
On the other hand, Slack also offers a unique set of features.
You can actually program chatbots to answer frequently asked questions from your team within channels, streamlining communication.
And the fact that all your channels and direct messages are in the same place is super handy to simplify collaboration within your team!
Furthermore, calling your team (voice or video) is effortless on Slack. All you have to do is:
- Find the person you want to call.
- And press the phone symbol.
That’s right – there are no messy integrations involved.
Another awesome feature within Slack is its push notifications (for desktop and mobile).
You’ll never miss another update again!
While both platforms share many similarities in terms of features, there are some distinctions.
- Firstly, Slack offers audio calls directly within the app, whereas phone calls require integrations with third-party applications on Monday.
- Slack also boasts real-time chat functionality, which is unavailable on Monday.com currently.
In terms of features and functionality, both offer plenty. But what if I told you that you could use them together?

Slack also offers a robust resource center with extensive support materials. Their ‘Contact Us’ page also has a helpful FAQ section that addresses common issues.
