ActiveCampaign vs Drip 2024

ActiveCampaign vs Drip 2024

You’ve probably heard of ActiveCampaign, a highly popular and powerful marketing and automation platform.

ActiveCampaign is a pretty impressive tool, but it’s not the only option out there.

Since Drip’s conception in 2013, it has become a fierce ActiveCampaign competitor.

But which is the best email marketing tool for you? Well, that’s where I step in!

I’ll do all the hard yards for you by comparing their features, pricing, ease of use, and more to find out – who takes the email marketing automation crown?

What Are They? ActiveCampaign vs Drip

ActiveCampaign is a one-stop marketing automation shop full to the brim of email marketing, sales, and CRM features.

The goal of ActiveCampaign is to empower businesses with the tools and insights needed to create targeted campaigns, drive more conversions, and improve customer engagement.

On the other hand, Drip is a customer-centric marketing automation platform designed for eCommerce teams.

Drip was designed to help online retailers personalize their customers’ shopping experiences, from the very first interaction to the point of purchase and beyond.

It uses sophisticated automation workflows and analytics to help you send targeted emails, segment your audience, and track metrics to drive sales and customer growth.

What Are The Differences Between ActiveCampaign vs Drip?

ActiveCampaign vs Drip Differences

At the outset, ActiveCampaign and Drip sound like similar products. How different can two online marketing automation platforms be, right?

Well, there are actually several key differences between the two!

The biggest differences are the target audience and functionality.

Drips automations and integrations are geared toward online stores, and ActiveCampaign’s built-in sales CRM suits all business types after an integrated sales and marketing solution.

The feature set also differs. For example, ActiveCampaign offers convenient built-in A/B testing (split testing), whereas Drip doesn’t include this feature by default.

Okay, so now that we’ve scratched the surface of both platforms and their key differences, let’s get into the nitty gritty and compare ActiveCampaign and Drip side by side!

Ease Of Use

Let’s kick things off with how easy each is to get up and running and use.

Drip offers a modern and vibrant interface with just a few menu options that are easy to navigate and learn.

However, building emails follows a section-based approach instead of a drag-and-drop builder, which may take some getting used to (if you’re used to other visual editors like Mailchimp’s).

On the other hand, ActiveCampaign’s interface feels more business-oriented and less colorful than Drips.

Your dashboard may look overwhelming initially, but it can be simplified!

And in terms of building emails, ActiveCampaign’s flexible drag-and-drop editor is easier to use and allows for a broader range of content elements (social and video links) and conditional email content.

The verdict? While Drip’s editor and interface are both quick and simple, ActiveCampaign’s editor is more intuitive, and their editing capabilities offer more layout flexibility.

Pricing:

ActiveCampaign and Drip are both premium email marketing services. So I’m sure it comes as no surprise that neither offers a free plan.

The cost of both platforms is based on how many contacts you have. But which provides better bang for your back?

ActiveCampaign:

If you’re just after email automation marketing, go with one of ActiveCampaign’s marketing plans:

  • Lite: $29 per month (1000 contacts).
  • Plus: $49 per month (1000 contacts).
  • Professional: $149 per month (1000 contacts).
  • Enterprise: Custom price.

It’s worth noting that these plans don’t include their internal CRM. So, if you’re after a CRM and email marketing, I suggest going with their marketing and sales Bundle plans!

Drip:

Drip has just one plan, which is based on the size of your email list. Prices start from $39 per month (up to 2500 contacts).

ActiveCampaign is the cheaper option if you have 1000 contacts or less. However, if your email list ranges from 1001-2500, you’ll be looking at $49 per month on the Lite plan alone.

The winner? Well, it’s not as cut and dry as you may think. If you need automations and have a small email list (under 1000), go for ActiveCampaign.

But if you’re after eCommerce automation tools and your email list is within that 1001-2500, go for Drip.

Because of Drip’s simple and affordable pricing structure for small teams, I’m giving this win to them!

Winner = Drip

Templates

Which tool provides better, more captivating email templates that you can use to create your campaigns?

When it comes to variety, one of the two options edges out ahead.

Drip offers various colorful and fun email templates. And if nothing tickles your fancy, you can import your own HTML designs.

But ActiveCampaign takes the lead on this one!

With 250+ fully responsive email templates, ActiveCampaign surpasses Drip’s template selection. Plus, most of these templates are modern and sleek, which is an added bonus!

Segmentation

I must admit, Drip’s segmentation features are impressive for a fairly newish platform. With Drip, you can create segments based on various criteria, including event-based data.

For instance, you can generate segments based on the following:

  • People who have or haven’t clicked on a specific automation email.
  • Those who haven’t engaged with recent emails.
  • Customers with a specific number of orders and more.

You can apply tags to contacts, allowing for easy categorization based on attributes like the source, customer status, or specific page visits.

Tags can be added through Drip’s universal ‘Rules’ function or within automation workflows.

Additionally, Drip enables segmentation using custom fields and implements lead scoring to identify promising prospects.

ActiveCampaign shares many of the same segmentation capabilities.

Like Drip, ActiveCampaign lets you create segments using tags, custom fields, contact actions, and event data. You can manually create these lists or use automations to generate cross-list segments.

ActiveCampaign also provides lead scoring capabilities, allowing complex scoring based on various criteria and actions.

It allows list management within the email editor through campaign actions. For example, you can apply tags or add contacts to specific lists when they click on an image or link.

The fact that you can execute these actions directly from the editor is pretty cool in my opinion!

Automation:

Known for being the ultimate automation king, can Drip beat ActiveCampaign at its own game?

Drip stands out with its visually appealing automation workflow editor, which I find more engaging and enjoyable. It’s user-friendly, well-designed, and flexible.

The wide range of automation triggers includes:

  • Link clicks.
  • Page views.
  • Assigned tags.
  • Integrated tool actions (like purchases in a Shopify store).

You can intuitively add workflow steps like sending campaigns, moving contacts into other campaigns, or branching them on multiple paths.

And with Drip’s Automation Rules (universal actions triggered whenever a contact performs a specific action), you can easily set up rules without creating a complete workflow!

Now, let’s look at the automation powerhouse that is ActiveCampaign.

ActiveCampaign’s visual editor for building automations is packed with pre-built templates for

  • Abandoned carts.
  • Post-purchase upsells.
  • Tag assignments for webpage visitors, and more.

Although ActiveCampaign’s visual editor may not be as dazzling as Drip’s, it remains intuitive and flexible, boasting an extensive list of triggers and actions.

These can be combined to create complex workflows for email sending, lead scoring, and data segmentation.

And thanks to its integrated CRM, ActiveCampaign also allows for automation of various sales processes!

How, you might ask? For instance, simply automate the entry of leads generated from marketing campaigns into your sales pipeline as deals, then send automated follow-up sales emails.

So who wins this round? Well, Drip is better suited for eCommerce automations and, overall, is easier to master.

On the other hand, ActiveCampaign still reigns as the supreme choice for businesses that require extensive automation between marketing and sales teams!

eCommerce:

What if you have an online store? Who can you count on? Well, when it comes to integrating with eCommerce platforms, both ActiveCampaign and Drip offer powerful solutions.

Both can import store/customer data and track revenue generated by emails and campaigns.

But which one is better for your online store?

ActiveCampaign has deep data integrations with popular platforms like BigCommerce, WooCommerce, Shopify, PrestaShop, and Magento.

This means you can pull customer data like total revenue, orders, and purchased products from your online store to create segments, campaigns, and automations.

Drip, on the other hand, also offers direct integrations with Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento, plus third-party integrations with platforms like BigCommerce and SamCart.

But Drip goes a step further, allowing you to trigger automations based on even the most minor customer actions, like viewing a product page or starting a checkout process.

These actions are readily available within Drip’s automation editor. That’s right, no special API is needed!

Drip also offers convenient ways to add dynamic product information into emails, including order confirmation emails with details about the ordered products.

The Visual Email Builder allows you to add content to newsletters like product recommendations and top-selling products.

Forms:

In terms of forms, Drip offers various form types, such as widget, embedded, and hosted forms.

You can easily customize form fields, design elements, confirmation messages, and more in their form editor, and form submissions can trigger actions like:

  • Adding tags.
  • Flagging as a prospect.
  • Moving/removing from campaigns.
  • Recording conversions.

But there are limitations! The widget/popup forms don’t support dropdowns, radio buttons, or checkbox fields, and embedded forms require customizing HTML to add these fields.

If you’re a beginner, this is less than ideal.

In my opinion, ActiveCampaign’s visual form builder is better for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, it offers more design control. And secondly, it easily allows different form field types (text, dropdown, radio buttons, checkboxes, etc.) without HTML customization.

Both platforms let you trigger actions after form submissions, such as adding to lists, tags, or deals and integrating with automation workflows.

ActiveCampaign vs Drip Support:

ActiveCampaign vs Drip Support

ActiveCampaign and Drip equally provide similar one-on-one support via email and live chat, detailed knowledge bases, and community forums (Drip’s is on Facebook).

They also both offer one-on-one training, with ActiveCampaign also providing online tutorials and webinars.

Drip stands out by offering 24/7 live support, while ActiveCampaign’s support is limited to business hours (US Central time).

And although Drip’s live chat support requires a payment of $99 or more, it’s still the winner in my eyes!

ActiveCampaign vs Drip Who Are They Best For?

ActiveCampaign vs Drip Who Are They Best For_

ActiveCampaign is one of my favorite marketing automation tools, but Drip puts up a pretty good fight!

It may come as no surprise that ActiveCampaign and Drip are both great options for marketing automation.

The highlight of Drip is its exceptional eCommerce integrations, but ActiveCampaign’s CRM and additional features are super impressive for a wider range of businesses.

Therefore, ActiveCampaign is the better all-in-one solution, especially if you want to manage sales and marketing processes within a single platform.

But if you run an online store, Drip may be the better option for you!

Stews Final Thoughts

And that’s it! That concludes my comprehensive ActiveCampaign vs Drip article.

As you can see, both tools are outstanding in their own ways. And although they offer similar features, they cater to different target audiences.

No matter the type of business you run or what you intend to use the platform for, I can guarantee you’ll be taken care of.

But in saying that, if neither platform catches your interest, that’s perfectly fine!
